Building on its roots as the world’s go-to startup domain name registry, domain registry .CO successfully completed its first auction in China last week with proceeds totaling 1,703,450 (USD 254,140) for 25 domain names. Popular names such as CY.co—standing for 创业 (Chuàngyè – startups)—went for the highest prices in this auction.
.CO has seen a lot of new business this year, buoyed by government initiatives and the popular appeal of startups in China. They have notably partnered with popular startups platform Startup Salad (salad.co) in Shenzhen, bringing domain name offerings to some of the latest and greatest companies in China.
Their reputation among high-profile startups and startup companies in Silicon Valley and the world has contributed to this appeal. 500 Startups (500.co) and LeWeb (leweb.co) are some popular startup companies and organizations using .CO names.
Allegravita is delighted to continue to market and promote .CO in China. Our infographic (in Chinese) below describes the results of the auction. You can also check our placed coverage of the auction on Sohu here.
This first auction was held on Hangzhou-based domain auction platform 22.cn. Neustar, the parent company of .CO, is the operator of .CO, .BIZ and many other top-level domains worldwide. Five .BIZ names were also part of the auction.
