Women in Shanghai are building new companies this weekend as .CO and Startup Salad open the very first startup hackathon in China exclusively for women!
Over the weekend, more than a dozen teams will compete to win. Three startups will receive prizes that include monetary investment, free co-working space access, incorporation assistance, and preferential access to venture capital investment. .CO, the domain registry of choice for startups and entrepreneurs worldwide, opened the weekend on Friday with some motivational introductory videos and activities.
“Shanghai for Girls” is the first of many annual Startup Salad events which will focus on women’s entrepreneurship in China. Hackathons typically begin on Friday and run throughout the weekend. WInners are chosen on Sunday.
Men are allowed to participate, but they must be building companies with a focus on women.
Startup Salad, a 52–hour weekend hackathon and demo day event for entrepreneurs in China, hosts events in 15 global cities each year, focusing on building the next wave of innovation in China and Silicon Valley. The Startup Salad network spans more than 40 cities, 3 million entrepreneurs, 2000 mentors, and 3000 startups. This is the third event that .CO has hosted together with Startup Salad since their partnership was announced earlier this year.
